The Start

The whole mob erupted as Roberto pierced the captain’s chest with his knife. Roberto kept kicking the dead captain in an excited state of exultation as did a few other men standing close by.

Thiago stood away from the mob, staring at the sky. There was something ominous about the moon. The trees looked down on them grimacing at the bloodbath of the night.

The captain was a good man, he had promised to help. But Roberto was young and impatient.

Thiago looked at him dripping in the captain’s blood, cheering the crowd with his fists raised in the air. That was the first of many times he felt scared of his younger brother.
